Tax disc from sold car

I sold my car with three months tax left on it. I took it out as I thought that the new owner would get their own tax. She got back to me saying the tax office is saying that she can't get it taxed again as the car already has been taxed for 3 months. I offered to give it to half the price that I paid (I know I'm just trying to squeeze a bit more out of her) but she says that she is entitled to get the disc with the car and I'm obliged to provide it to her at no cost.

Is it not the case that she can walk into tax office as the new owner and get it taxed without any problem? Ultimately I will give it to her but if I have no obligation to give it to her then I would like to get something for it.

    Thanks.

Did you advertise it with tax, or tell her it was taxed when you sold it?
Its not worth anything to you.

If i was her i'd tell you to F*** O** and just drive the car, as its taxed, she just hasn't got the disk.

Don't be so tightfisted give her the tax disc, it's of no value to you as you can't reuse it or get a refund.

Isn't there a long running thread on boards.ie about how tight some folks are?

You deserve a mention in it, sir!

What were you going to do with the tax disc ? You cannot get a refund on it.

Once she has the car in her own name she simply needs to fill in form RF134 with a fee of €6 and they will send her a replacement regardless of your ransom demand from her. If I was her I wouldn't waste 1 cent of petrol going to you as you sound like a right tight a$$ bo11ix :D

    Form RF34

Probably is a wind up but some people are so tight it defies belief. I'm just sad she bought the car off the op, I'd rather it rotted on his drive so he could have somwhere to keep his precious...tax disc. Gollum would be proud.

What did you take the tax disc for it's not yours.

Why would she pay to tax a car that is all ready taxed?

I take it you drained all the petrol out of the car before she took it.

I know a guy that took the plates off the car when he was selling it.

In the OP's case I think he would be expecting luck money.

I smell a troll....2 posts within minutes of each other, one looking for money for a tax disc and the other looking for a discount from Griffith College.
After doing a degree in Computing yet now only stumbling across Boards.ie:confused:

Nah, it just took him a while to work out how to sneak into starbucks without buying a coffee and use the free wi-fi while hiding in the jax.

Unless you sold it for scrap I would give it to her. If you specifically said no tax then it is your disc but the refund won't be worth the hassle with just 3 months left (if any)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

He would not be entitled to any refund regardless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,652 ✭✭✭fasttalkerchat

He would not be entitled to any refund regardless.

Is that because there's just 3 months left or because the car is already sold?

You can only get a refund if a car is scrapped.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

You can only get a refund if a car is scrapped.
And there is more than 3 months left on the tax.

New buyer can just get a replacement disc for €13.

I'm closing this, every angle has been covered at this stage.
