VEC Panel

I was wondering if anyone could shed a little light on this for me.
I did an interview two weeks ago for a job in a VEC. This evening I got an email telling me that they had formed a panel and the person placed first on the panel had been offered the job, that my name was on the panel and it would be used to fill any upcoming vacancies in the subject area.
Does anyone know the likelihood of being offered a job at a future date? I know nobody has a crystal ball but have others got job offers from being on a panel? It made no mention of how far down the list I am.
Is it really much different to a straightforward no?

I got this last year from City Dublin VEC. When schools needed subs I got phone calls - "can you come work today" type of thing. Some positions seemed to be longer term then others. I'd already got a very few part-time hours elsewhere though which always seemed to clash with these phone calls. So I've yet to do a day with City Dub VEC!

Best of luck with your job hunt.

Depends on how large that VEC is , what your subject is and how far down the panel you are. If you are near the top and it's a large VEC you have some chance but it's difficult to say

It's Wicklow VEC and my subject is Maths - I suppose it's just a thing that I have to wait and see but not be holding my breath for it!

Ugh. I was on a panel with them last summer. Got a call at the end of August offering me a maternity cover. I had nothing else so obviously I took it. Horrible school. Worst year of my life.

It depends what happens. If the first on the panel gets another job and doesnt come then it olls down. Wicklow is a big vec afaik. sbout ten schools so good chance id say.

Wicklow is a big vec so you might get a call. At least you know that you are doing the right thing to make the panel.

Fasteriwalk - your experience shouldnt reflect on the entire school or vec i dont think its fair for someone who got reasonsblly good news.

You are entitled to phone HR and ask them where you are on the panel. Also it might be an idea to leave your details into individual schools, particularly if you've contacts there for part-time and substitute work.

My VEC use the panels to recruit for all vacancies during the year, so if you're high up on the panel, you've a good chance of getting a maternity leave etc. No harm to give them a ring and find out what number you are. I got my job off a VEC panel - did an interview for a job that was gone to a girl who had been in the job, but when a retirement came up, I got that job.

It could be true. They might not have a panel per se but they will still have your details on file.

Years ago i applied for an interview with them but didnt get called. Last week ib august they rang and offered me a twt job.

    Figure that one out!

Yeah start Monday and do an interview then in a week or so. Different times. My class of 35 woodwork teachers were all hitting the building sites. There was a big shortage.

Naturally im sure if i turned out to be an ape in the interview etc i would have been despatched.

So they did interview you eventually . I'm sure they were lucky to have you at so late a stage.

No i didnt take it. I already had a job - still have it! They must have lad someone who pulled out. Happened in my school a couple of times over the years since i started.

My ec usually have all their interviewing done by the end of June. People get jobs closer ti home etc and in one case didnt even bother to tell the vec just didnt turn up on day one.
