Running Track in Clontarf

I'm thinking of doing some speed work and I see there's a track down in Clontarf near the Alfie Byrne Road. Looks in a bit of a rough state but it might do if I knew what length it was. In a previous thread, I saw shels4ever saying it measured 380m. Has anyone run on this track and/or measured how long it is? Unfortunatley I don't have a garmin or anything fancy like that. Maybe I could invest in a trundle wheel and go for a short walk.

Where is this track? I work in eastpoint but never seen it

Its gone now i'm afraid. Replaced with astro turf pitches about 2 years ago now.

It's right here, around the astro pitches. I checked it's length on MapMyRun and it came out at 0.4km. I assume they round up their figures though and I was hoping to get a track that's exactly 400m long so I can do some sprint repeats.

You're probably right BriandeRunner. It's got the shape of a running track on Google Maps but it's more likely to be a dug up piece of concrete resembling a running track. Going to drop in tomorrow anyway and scope it out.

Used to be a old track by dart station. Now a load of astro pitches as brian said.

It was there, it was a sort of cinder or fine gravel surface, but gone quite a while now. Google maps is not a live view.

I feel like a right eejit altogether. I assumed they updated the satellite images regularly. Thanks for the enlightenment Brian. I'll have to devise some other type of strategy now.

I checked it's length on MapMyRun and it comes in at 400m, although that's only to within an accuracy of 10m. Good enough for me though. Bit of a cycle but it's as close as I'm going to get. I'll check it out today and put some feedback up.

I haven't been there in years but it was a fine gravel type surface, similar to what used to be in Clontarf.

Actually passed it the other day and it seemed ok, there was some moss/grass on it but there is still plenty of cinder left on it. A very under utilised track, I would be interested if anyone knew its history? Its been there for as long as I can remember, I think its a relic of the 80's running boom.

The local Community Games group used to use it when I was growing up there (late 80's, 90's)

Checked out the track this evening. Looks okay. As jd said, it's a kind of loose gravel surface with bits of grass coming through. A bit dilapidated but the surface looks pretty smooth. I took a quick pic with my iPod Touch

I use to use it but I don't anymore. The council fecked about a few times changing the gravel and kinda ruined it. They don't do a good job either in cutting the weeds as the weed are getting terribly overgrown. Also add in the amount of broken glass lying around the track from young teens and dog walkers ruin the track with the dogs and you know how dogs like chasing after things(people) they see run.
