    Hi guys,

Tesco Mobile have their own Talk to forum so I've moved the original thread over there so the reps can answer all your specific questions.

    Thanks,
    Nicola

So is the eMobile thread going to get moved to the Eircom forum?

Strange one alright. Although it might be down to the Tesco reps responding in the BA thread. I don't think the Eircom/eMobile reps did.

Either way, I'm annoyed and disappointed my thread was moved. :(

    Doesn't 3 offer this for €20?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

Silly moving it IMO as it's on topic and valid...

Anyhoo, silly movings aside, I think it's wonderful offer!
I'm just waiting on feedback on general network performance with regards to data use. Unlimited internet with Three is fine but those times when full bars and yet no data coming down your pipe kinda pisses's me off at times!

    Hope Tesco is better!

3 do this on Pre Pay for 20 euro Lads.

Tesco/O2 is the same, depends where you are.

3 do this on Pre Pay for 20 euro Lads.
    • All you can eat Data
    • Free any network weekend calls
    • Free any network texts
    • Free Three-to-Three calls
    Close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

The 3 Prepay offer is All You Can Eat Data with a €20 top-up. You get unlimited texts anytime, but only free calls at the weekend. So the offer is not the same.
Although you do have the €20 top-up to spend on calls, at 30c a minute weekdays, thats not going to go very far, it's just over an hour a month.

    Close.

This I need to find out for myself if no one here will provide feedback...

But for now, as I said, those times when you have full bars and no data are the worst! happing more and more, in fact too much IMO and lets not talk about the jumping from Voda to three 50 times per day killing my battery! No amount of free this or that will make me happy if what I'm paying for does not work in the first place!

True but you can decide how much value it is to you depending on your own needs. I'm more interested in the txts and the data. The 29.5 cent other network call rate during the week is high but you can get around that in some cases through using something like Viber.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭RUCKING FETARD

    Viber.
That works by using the data instead of network, yea?

Do Tesco allow tethering on iPhones?

Ya, it uses your data but the person you're calling will have to have Viber installed on their phone as well. It will work off your home wifi as well. I don't make a lot of phone calls anyway but Viber helps to buffer against the high cost per minute charge.

Yes tethering is allowed. This and many similar questions have already been answered on the original thread that's been moved here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056689752

The nearest cheaper deal to this is the 48 Months VIP package for €20.
Unlimited calls and texts, although the data is 3Gb per month: http://www.48months.ie/vip

Any ideas on the length of contract , the €20 per month deal with 3 has caught me for 40 the last few months.

Edit : never mind. Read the other thread. 30 days. Gonna pick up a sim at the weekend and give it a lash.

Isn't this just unlimited mobile calls and 20mins landline?

Pj! has it spot on, as the reps responded on the thread we felt it better to move it into their Talk to so they could continue to post and help answer queries-no eMobile or Eircom reps have posted in the eMobile thread yet.

Distorted logic. It was put up as a bargain alert. Alert being the operative word. Putting it in tesco forum would largely restrict it to people who already knew!

Edit just realised it's back in BA's -which is how I found it in the first place!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

Ah was loving the idea, even went out and got a SIM to test the network with... But the old O2 network would not give me a sufficient number of bars on my phone, none at all in parts of my job... Stick with three I must, and who knows, maybe the Vodafone-Three network shearing agreement will bring better things.

    .
Landlines are for losers cos at 48 we believe it's all about mobile. But to cover the taxi & pizza ordering you get 20 minutes of landline use included in your membership.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,916 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

But only 10,000 minutes with Tesco compared to 45,000 with Emobile! Not that I can see anyone using even 10,000!

Yeah I saw that. I wasn't sure if it was just talking about texts for landlines and mobiles. Anyways I have my answer now thanks!

One last question. Are these just normal sims or can you get sims suitable for iPhones with this offer? It is a cracking deal

You can get the micro SIM by ringing CS, they will post one out to you.

I got my sim yesterday had to cut it to fit iPhone but they do have micro sims apparently.

Opps, sorry yes my mistake, the 48 Months offer is not unlimited calls, its unlimited calls to mobiles, and 20 minutes to landlines per month. I suppose the value depends on what kind of calls you make. Although I'd say most people make more calls to mobiles than landlines.

Signed up for this deal, at least its a monthly contract, Lidl will probably come up with something cheaper next. :p

Its a good point though, with a monthly contract you're free to move if something cheaper comes up.

Ok, what about the cheap international calls? How does one pay for that?

Ideally you would use something like Viber which is free. Both persons need internet access.

I use rebtel. You put credit on your account and you get a local irish number for your international contact. With free local calls from this Tesco deal you can ring for free and then rebtel is fairly cheap.

We Ring Canada mobiles for €0.012 per minute. If you want to try Rebtel here is a referral code if you decide to use it. http://www.rebtel.com/u/01430691068

One pays for them via direct debit, on the bill you'll get monthly (probably online) from Tesco Mobile. This is a SIM Only plan, but its Billpay, not Prepay, its easy to get confused.

Tesco still have some of the cheapest international landline call rates around: http://www.tescomobile.ie/international-rates.aspx
Lycamobile might be cheaper for international calls. You could use a separate SIM for international calls: http://www.lycamobile.ie/1ct-offer/en

Thanks OP just ported over my payg number from vodafone to my new sim there now. This is a far better deal than Emobile if you are using an existing mobile and with the 30 day contract your not tied to 18months like the other deal.

    thanks
