Aviva- not interested?

We sold our car and got a newer version of the same model and just rang Aviva to cancel our current policy and maybe switch it to our new car. I told the rep that I had checked around and got half a dozen quotes all cheaper nearly €200, which is true.
He said he'd check for me and came back to say the premium wouldn't change- so I cancelled. We're with Aviva 8 years and no claims

Incidentally he told me I can't cancel by phone I have to write to them.

Ended up going with Zurich with the same cover, through Cill, for €200 cheaper.

It just struck me as odd- as if they're not interested in the business

The rules are different at the different companies, and they change over time. You can often get a better deal that your current lot can't match.

Make sure to send your cancellation letter by registered post....and not to a box number.
It has to be addressed to an office to enable the postman to get a signature to give you proof of delivery.

Eh, why didn't you tell them you changed your car and wanted to put the new car on the policy for the rest of the year? Chances are whatever you've saved elsewhere you'll lose on refunds from Aviva in 'adminstration fees'.

Essentially that's what I told them, Except that our insurance is up since the end of last month anyway. I'll be in the bank in the morning to cancel the direct debit in writing which shouild stop them getting any more of our money
