Can any1 help me decide between the giant defy 4 or the felt f95- I am buying a bike on the bike to work scheme and these 2 seem to be within my price range although the giant is 100 cheaper at €699. It's my first bike and I hope to get into cycling as a way of keeping fit

Having bought a bike on the BTW scheme a few months ago i do recommend you spend the full €1000 on a bike as you will probably regret it within a short space of time especially if you 'get into it' more. I spent 900 on the bike and while i'm content with the bike for now i do sort of regret not spending a bit more and getting something slightly higher spec.

I had a look at the spec of both bikes and the defy 4 is very basic spec with 2300 gears. I'd go for the Defy 2 (which you should be able to find for around 900) as it has Shimano Tiagra 20 shifters and derailleurs)

The F95 is very basic too and if your interested in a Felt bike look at the F75 or if you cant stretch to it then the F85.

    Thank you,

I was thinking about spending about 800 on the bike and than 200 on equipment but you have a point alright and it's something I need to think about-
I saw the felt f85 in the shop, its a really nice looking bike and caught my eye, I will take a look at the giant defy 2 also

    Thanks for the reply

Don't buy your gear from the bike shop, buy it online from wiggle, chain reaction or amazon/ eBay as it will be quite a bit cheaper. Order your gear online now and you'll have it by the time the BTW paperwork etc is all sorted then spend the full 1000 on the bike. If your in the high PRSI band then the bike will only actually cost you 480 over the year which is less than a tenner a week.
