    Hi,

I was just wondering does any suckler farmers have cows they kept off Pirate (PTE) the AI charolais bull. Just wondering what is his offspring like for milk and calving ability. I have a few heifers off Pirate and considering keeping them for replacements. Thanks

I have one cow of PTE. She is of a milky black whitehead cow. She calved her first calf last may at just over two years old and calved again in april this year.
Calving at two didnt stop her growing and she is bigger than her mother was.Pirate has a very poor figure for daughters milk and i can see that in this cow.I'd say PTE daughters would have good calving ability and this cow is very quiet too. She is bloody hard fed and thinner than the rest of my cows which are limousins. I hope you have good land and lots of grass if you are going to keep that kind of cow.It depends what they're out of i suppose.

I have had a lot of them over the years. PTE must be around 8-10 years. I have charlois cows and they have all had good calves and I have had no problem with milk. In fact I had the AI man this evening and he was saying they had a good udder.
The back breeding was probably friesen a couple of generations back which would help.
No problem calving with them. The only sections I have had are with other bulls. Calves are good but not spectacular.
