    Hi,

I plan on going to New York for a week next March and staying in a five star hotel with my girlfriend. How much would you expect to pay for Hotel and flights for two altogether?

Accommodation can be very expensive in NYC if you want somewhere central and decent.

For a week for two in a four star (think most are four star and the standard is excellent- I stayed in the Fitzpatrick at Grand Central a few years ago and that came to 750 for 3 nights) plus flights I'd expect to pay about 2,500e.

I reckon to be comfortable and if you want to do a bit of shopping, you'd want that in spending money too. Tend to lose the run of yourself over there! :D

Why 5*? To be honest i'd go cheaper on the hotel to have more spending money myself, but that's me.

Have a look at Hotwire.com for some deals, I got an amazing deal on Fitzpatricks a few years ago through hotels.com but just keep looking and looking as it is an expensive place to stay.

There are currently some great deals on flights to the US for this Autumn, might be more expensive in March but who knows.

+1 You'll probably spend very little time in the room so I wouldn't splash out too much and definitely not 5*. Get somewhere reasonably central with good recommendations on Tripadvisor. Remember that 5* means spa, pool, gym, etc. which you do not need if travelling for a few days to NYC. You could book a 5* and get a smaller room than a 4* around the corner.

But if you really want to splash out, check out the New York Palace which is directly behind St. Patrick Cathedral and as central as you can get, one block off the top of 5th Ave. Fitzpatricks Grand Central will cost less and is a very nice cosy hotel, stayed there last November.

Make sure that you have priced the flights and hotel before booking anything. You could for example fall into the trap of booking cheap flights with Aer Lingus and then discovering that there's a bundle of conferences/trade shows on in NYC that week and the hotel prices are through the roof.

Was in NYC at Easter and would def recommend the Royalton Hotel. Its just 2 blocks east of Times Square and the nearest subway is 1 block away. Boutique hotel which would certainly impress your GF. Was part of a 3 city visit to the US(booked with Trailfinders) so don't have prices..sorry.
