Hey, I have a M-SATA drive I got from my old laptop, (which is dead), and I have some files on it that I would love to get off it. I have a picture of the drive here:

I was looking at M-SATA to USB adapters, but I can't seem to find the right one for the price. They're either expensive or poor quality, and I don't feel like wasting €50 on something that may not work. Could someone give me a hand with finding one, thanks. :)

I recently baught one of these, works perfectly and is cheap. Mobile SATA is the same as standard SATA btw
Edit: that picture looks like a standard SATA connector, could you do a photo of the label? there is a different mini SATA interface as well seemingly

Yeah, I wasn't too sure, as the connectors looked different to me. :Z

Ehm, you talking about this: Ch7GU.jpg

If it helps, I got it from a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1450G. Anyway, thanks for the link! I'll get it next time I get some money on my 3V card. :)

That's a regular SATA laptop drive. You could plug it into most desktop computers made in the past few years (with an SATA cable and afree power cable).

However, an enclosure would be the easiest and not too expensive route.

There's other options on that site. That one has USB 3. They also do have a mSATA enclosure but I don't think that's what you need. A lot of them are USB powered, not needing external power supply but some laptops don't support enough power. If you are using with a desktop you should be fine, but with a laptop you might need to consider one that you plug in.

Yeah, I'm planning on using it, just so I can get the files off it, and onto my desktop. I'll check that out now. :)

Yeah, you would have to open up your desktop to see if you have a free power cable.
You need a connector like the one on right here coming from your power supply unit.

You'll need an SATA cable as well:
    sata-cable.jpg

If you have a newer system, the DVD drive would have an SATA data cable and the right kind of power connector. You could temporarily plug that out and connect the hard drive (do this when the system is off and plugged out!). You wouldn't need to buy any cables if this is the case.

I'm just after doing what you said in your last bit. It worked! Thank you very much! Do you have a PayPal account so I can send you €5, or something? You're after saving me double that! <3
