Moving to Brompton from Dahon Folder

Decided after trying a friend's that a Brompton is for me, and there's a shop in Dublin will build/order one for me according to himself (cycle ways). But can I trade in my old folder (Dahon) to help offset the cost? Or is it like cars, better off to try and sell privately first?

(Alternatively, suck it up and keep the Dahon if I can live on beans for a while, I guess).

The last time I made an enquiry about a trade-in (on a hybrid) I was told that it wasn't really done. I don't think bike shops do a good trade in second-hand bikes, although since folders are a niche, perhaps it's different for them.

You could just ring Cycleways and ask. They sold me my Brompton, with which I am very happy (except for the folding pedal; I replaced the pedals with standard pedals, as I didn't like the extra flex and the slightly wider folded package doesn't inconvenience me at all). There was a waiting period of about two months after placing the order, which you should keep in mind.

Just a note to say thanks for the advice on this from Boards users. I went ahead and ordered a Brompton from Cycle Ways in Dublin, who were very helpful. Just FYI, apparently if you don't order a Brompton by end of July 2012 you can wait until 2013 such is their backlog.

Indeed, I can now expect delivery in... October....this year (2012).

So thanks for headsup and guidance. No surprises when I came to commit. Nice. (didn't bother with trade-in).
