Opel Astra loosing power

I bought an 2006 1.4 Opel Astra just a week ago. I had to get the timing chain replaced in it as it was noisy. I had this done in the main dealer. A day after this I noticed It was loosing power - to the extent that I would have to change down to second gear to go up any kind of hill and even then it wouldn't go. The garage today said It was definitely not to do with the timing belt. It seems to be very coincidental If It wasn't something to do with timing belt being changed as it was flying prior to this.

Does anyone know anything about a link between a timing chain being put on incorrectly and power? Or experienced something similar?
