Selling top brands

Hi, If you wanted to sell top brands online or offline can you just go to distributor and order. Can other retailers prevent you from selling these brands even if they dont have exclusivity. And in the case of items you can buy from a wholesaler like for eg pamapers nappies can a large retailer block you here also??
