Just wondering whats happening in the WWE now? Big fan back in the attittude era and have tried to get back into it on occasions on and off since then but it just seems to childish anymore.

Anyways last time I got into it was when CM Punk took the mic on RAW and started saying what he wanted. He then had took the title and was going to quit. I know he didnt quit as I saw him during wrestlemania but is he still doing what he wants?

Also I heard Brock Lesnar is back. Is he doing a Rock on it and just appearing on and off or is he back full time?

Most importantly is it any good these days?

CM Punk sold out and is the face of the company now, as they say he's become everything he hates.
His promos have lost their edge, but he's saved it with some great ringwork with Daniel Bryan.

Brock lost to Cena despite being on top for 90% of their match, and then kayfabe quit. He's sueing the WWE over the reneging of the contract John Laringitis (since fired) gave him, and went on a rampage, breaking HHH's arm.
He's got a match vs HHH at Summerslam (even if not officially confrimed yet).
And yes he is doing a "Rock" as he's only contracted for about 15-20 appearances.

Bar the segments with AJ (who's gone insane), it's gone really pants, with any decent wrestlers being burried (Rhodes, Ziggler, Swagger, etc) , and far too many squash matches (Ryback, Sin Cara, Random Legend Vs Heath Slater, etc).
When RAW becomes a permanent 3 hour show, people will switch off in their droves.

I don't think they will, people may channel surf more but I'd say the ratings will largely stay the same. Doubt WWE or USA would go-ahead with 3 hours if it was going to be a ratings killer.

Good question. My answer is no but opinion is divided here, maybe time for a simple yes/no poll :D

Define selling out, would you? Like the way Steve Austin sold out? Surely the moment CM Punk appeared in WWE, that was him "selling out", no? Triple H "sold out." The Undertaker "sold out." If another opportunity arises and you don't take it, why would you bother to pursue this career and put to much work into it? That's what I'd be thinking anyway.

Agree 100%. If i got a promotion in my job and likely a big raise I'd take it too. Selling out nonsense is stupid, people don't like him anymore as he is not the edgy heel

The fact that we have even read these guys names, constitutes selling out, if you want to be that way inclined. I didn't expect anyone to agree with me, but that's my opinion anyway!

I do agree on that level. CM Punk jumped from like the No.5 heel on the roster tagging with Mason Ryan to the No.2 babyface. With a tour bus, more money and a lot more creative input.

To me the only time someone sells out is when they compromise a core morale principle. Punk has had to compromise on some things but that is business.

In a business where you put your body at risk nearly every night and have a limited enough timespan to really make decent money at it, of course you're going to do everything you can to make as much money as possible from it.

Every one of us would do the exact same if we were in that position and we'd be lying if we said we wouldn't.

Music is an example. Think of your favourite bands, and how many of them have seemingly sold out? Plus, we have to remember that with more money you become used to a higher standard of life/luxury. So to maintain that, you take the next step. People don't think of selling out. Generally people who become so conflicted about it are ones who over-think, I believe. But in wrestling, I would imagine the goal is always to hit the top.

I think by "sold out" grouch means (as I would mean) that CM Punk the character has sold out. No longer is he sharp-tongued, agressive champion of change and unfairly-treated indy workers (Colt, Luke Gallows etc), he became Triple H's buddy, wearing his suit jacket, a smarmy, sarcastic babyface. (Did you know he digs crazy chicks?) There's a world of difference between July 2011 Punk and July 2012 Punk. Remember when Austin praised Punk for his promos, and seemed interested to work with him? He isn't any more.

We're arguing a different point whether it was "right" for Punk to take a big paycheck hike & change his character to be in the position he enjoys today. (I personally think Punk was right to do so, and would've been intensely stupid not to). This paragraph is about business, the last paragraph was about selling-out creatively.

IMO everyone in WWE 'sells out' to some degree. Does anyone do exactly as they want and not compromise creatively? Only Vince, and mostly Tripper.

I think it is quite clear from Punk's comments that his goal is a few years "in the golden circle" and then retire. That's why he "cashed in" when given the oppertunity to set himself up for life financially. At least that's my take on what I've seen and read :)

It's not a simple yes or no answer. :(

to me that basically says "he's not underrated anymore so we don't like him". it's the whole It's Popular Now It Sucks mentality

Picked this up from another forum:
Punk really is a douche lol..

After the Raw show I went to IHOP with my wife and within minutes I noticed Kofi came in and sat in a booth with some older man and there was someone with a cap that turned out to be Punk,A small group of fans were there and noticed them too and so they went up to them nicely&asked for autographs

Punk got up/said something&left then came back after 5 mins with a pen and signed stuff&took pics and a few more people like kids came up too,I eventually went up to them and nicely told punk"excuse me sir,I don't mean to bother you But just wanted to shake your hand cause I am a HUGE fan since Ring of Honor"and he said"cool man"and I told Kofi"Kofi I'm also a big fan of yours"he had a big smile and shook my hands and then I told them to have a good night&welcome to Laredo

5 mins after that this man took his teenage son(13-15)&two smaller boys(8-10)up to them and Punk was texting But as soon as he soon as he saw them he shouted"Ok that's it,f**k off,I'm serious just ***** off,let us eat"and the man told him they went to the show to see him and Punk replied"I appreciate that But leave me alone and f**k off",Man said"your an a** and no respect even for 3 seconds"Punk replied"Respect is earned pal and I don't owe you sh** pal"

A manager told Punk he had to leave cause it's a family friendly restaurant and he was being rude and he asked he IF she was kicking him out and she said"yes I'm very sorry But I have to ask you to step out"and he told Kofi&the older man they were f**ing leaving and Kofi looked very embarrassed and told the manager he's sorry"and put his head down as he walked behind Punk

I understand why Punk would be irritated But he could of said nicely no or to come back after he eat,Especially with kids involved,The man told the manager he came from Mexico and paid $400 to go to the show and his kids are HUGE fans of Punk!!!

    Another guy said this:
Yea Punks a Dick...I get why he got irritated but regardless...they are kds and fans...if he can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen......ad I'm shocked I met Edge(still champ),Christian,Curt Hawkins,Trent Barretta and Kofi at an In and Out after a SD.....Edge and Christian were Great didn't mind taking a pic with me and my friends I asked nicely if we could get a pic after they were done eating which lead to them agreeing and then E&C began to hassle me about my nexus shirt and then began making fun which was awesome I'm getting ragged on by edge and christian and these guys are actually interacting with me and hoolding a conversation...

Trent and curt were quiet and just listening and laughing...but kofi who edge tried getting him in on the fun seemed annoyed and ignored anthing I said to him...to which I took the hint and let them finish their food and I got my pic before they left....overall reat experience besides kofi.....ever since then not a fan of his TBH.....Poor Kids......if I was their father....I prolly would have waited for them to leave then give him a piece of my mind.....man what a dick!

Tbh for every bad story about Punk theres a good story about Punk.

Sometimes you can understand when famous people might not want fans asking for pics/autographs while they are eating or whatever but they could at least be nice about it . All Punk had to say was "hey do you mind coming back over in about 20mins after i finish my food" or something like that . Always knew Punk was a bit of a douche in real life

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,476 ✭✭✭Riddle101

Meh Punk was good to the fans up until the last part, but I would imagine it's annoying being famous and always getting hassled especially when you're about to eat. He proberly should have been a little more nicer about it, but what are you gonna do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Meh, don't really believe that story and doubt Punk would drop so many F bomb's in front of kids. And who goes up to CM Punk and calls him 'sir'? Obviously someone who doesn't know him at all.

The biggest shock was when Big Show turned heel! Who'd have thought it??

So was Punk texting his sister or AJ :p

So Punk signs autographs, plays nice - is trying to have a meal while routinely is interrupted, is probably banged up from wrestling, jet-lagged from flying, and tired from lack of sleep - finally after being pestered for ages just wants a bit of peace, and he's suddenly a dick?

How are we to even know that this account is genuine? We're not. But people take these things as gospel. Let's say it did happen, would he really be that much of a dick for wanting a bit of peace? And who's to say that the guy who approached him did it in a civil way? He could have been rude.

Just saying.. Every story has two sides.

You want to be the face of the company, that's what you have to put up with. Imagine how much Cena gets and yet you never hear a negative story about him meeting fans. Punk stories seem to pop up quite often.

Punk plays a smart ass on TV. He was just in character!

To be fair we have no idea how accurate that story is.

The second quote seems to have gone over everyone's head, or does no-one care that "nice guy" Kofi may be a moody so and so too. :pac:

Of course, both stories could be bull and I understand the skepticism, but for what it's worth, both accounts were from reputable long term posters on the forum.

That, and I understand that the schedule and the affect it can have on the body and mind can play a factor in a wrestler losing his cool or not being nice to fans. So in this respect I'd excuse Kofi as this is the first time I've heard a story like this about him. But Punk? It's nothing new, and TBH, cursing at kids who idolise you is pretty damn scummy.

That's the bit that always gets me, anytime a wrestler has a go at someone or anything, that person happens to have travelled from Venus, on a 4 year flight to get to the show that cost 4 million and they didn't know any of the wrestlers EXCEPT that one who gave them a hard time and they loved and are the #1 member of the fan club. Its gets very old very quick.

If you follow Punk on Twitter you can see how he responds to lots of fans. Quite often people seem to ask him normal enough stuff and he just replies back "A****le" or something like that.

The only people he seems to be civil to on there are famous-ish people.

Perhaps it's wrong to judge it based on written replies as the tone can be picked up the wrong way.

What Edge says here at 3.51 is so cool.
