Toyota Corolla Volume not Working

    Strange one.

'07 Toyota Corolla. The radio works perfectly except recently the volume control does not work. It's a dial, press it in to turn radio off/on (works fine), and twist it to increase/decrease volume (doesn't work). When I twist it, it makes no difference to the volume.

However, it works some of the time, seemingly at random as I haven't been able to recreate a situation where it works. Sometimes you can turn on the car and it works, and will stop working at some stage, whereas most of the time it just won't work at all.

Has anyone had this problem before? The radio/cd player works fine apart from this recent issue.

Yep, 05 Corolla Verso, same thing. I actually wanted to replace the radio (wanted a LW radio), and to get a "built in" one was going to cost E2k! Though of course you can get masks to fit a different model far far cheaper.

This is a problem which I had in my 07 Toyota Corolla (new model) about two years ago. I brought the car back to the Toyota garage where I also get it serviced regularly and they replaced the radio.

But two years on, yes, it happened again. I got the car serviced about 3 weeks ago and driving back home, the volume on Radio 1 dipped a little. The other stations were fine. Three weeks on, I only have 2FM:mad: and so I brought the car back again. As it is out of warranty, they recommended a guy who may be able to repair it!!! I was a little disappointed with that response and while I know the warranty is up, I have left them a lot of business over the years and as I am the only occupier of this car, I felt the radio is not being abused and they could at least have met me half way!!! as in I would pay for the radio (cost)!

Now I am undecided regarding the repair. First of all, would it cost me as much as a replacement one? What are my options?

    Any advice?

A new radio is approx €800, so even if they met you halfway you'd still pay a lot. I'd recommend you get it fixed or take your chances on another one from a scrap car.

Corollas are built in Japan, turkey and South Africa, chassis numbers starting in J, N and A respectively. Mightn't be any harm in checking if the problem is shared across cars from all 3 countries. We got all 3 in Ireland.
