Word is spreading throughout Westeros of a large battle involving a combined force of Stark and Tully units who fell upon a Lannister army just north of the Gold Road. The first signs of activity were reported by the Lannister Watchtower which identified enemy cavalry activity in the distance .This turned out to be elements of Tully River Riders under the command of Brynden Tully, The Blackfish. Using their Riverborn skill these light cavalry were able to identify hidden fords to swiftly cross an otherwise impassable river and thus attempt to join in the forthcoming battle.

This was followed almost immediately by a hail of arrows from Tully Longbowmen grouped closely together to take advantage of their unique skills. These Longbowmen have exceptional skills and are devastating when adjacent to each other. On this occasion however their efforts were less effective as they were targeting Lannister Heavy Infantry.
In response a force of Casterly Rock Cavaliers commanded by Addam Marbrand attempted under hill cover to engage the Longbowmen. They were however intercepted by Tully Heavy infantry commanded by Edmure Tully who were guarding the Longbowmen’s position. With the element of surprise they inflicted major losses on the Lannister cavalry. Some cavalry did make it through but only inflicted minor casualties on the Longbowmen. Through excellent marshalling of his forces Edmure ultimately annihilated the cavalry force and captured Marbrand himself.
The battle in the centre got off to a much more cautious start with neither side prepared to engage fully.
Eventually in what turned out to be a brave but foolhardy move Richard Karstark sent his Winterfell Riders headlong into the masses of Lannister Heavy infantry. Despite inflicting heavy losses they were overwhelmed by superior numbers and eliminated including losing Karstark himself.
As the afternoon progressed the Northern units continued to probe in the centre with infantry elements from the War Host of the North. This was supplemented by continuous harassment from the Tully Longbowmen. Despite this the Lannister centre held firm and the Watchtower remained in their hands.
Lannister now started to take the initiative in the centre pushing infantry units forward under Jamie Lannister including elements of the Lannisport Guard. This forced a strategic retreat of the Stark forces to combine with the Tully units.
As evening approached the situation was evenly balanced. Apart from the Tully River Riders who were now on the battlefield the cavalry threat on both sides had been eliminated. The remains of both forces were now consolidated. Any hope of capturing strategic targets (the Watchtower for Stark or the Longbowmen encampment for Lannister, were both looking impossible).

This left one last ploy for the North and as darkness approached a unit of the River Riders under the Blackfish himself made a daring flanking movement behind the Lannister lines to capture a strategic target on the Gold Road.
A unit of Westerland Archers stood in their way and bravely sacrificed themselves to prevent a Stark outright victory .
As darkness fell and with the prospect of Lannister reinforcements approaching up the Gold Road the remaining Northern units slipped away.
It was a daring attack by the North which nearly resulted in outright victory but ultimately ended with honours even.
Many songs will be sung of the heroic deeds on this day but these will never be heard by the dead and dying North of the Gold Road.
