    hi all

long story short when i booked my wedding i booked a certain package at the time. i had a look on the hotels website yesterday again and noticed it had added a few things to the package i had booked

Now seen as i booked it at the end of 2010 do you think i would be entitled to these extras seen as im still down for this package.

Extras added to the package were

Complimentry bar extension (i was told id to pay 250 for mine)
Complimentry light backdrop (was told 250 to rent from hotel)
12 month free membership to their gym
Vouchers for facials for bride and groom
Complimentry food for late drinkers at residents bar

Now none of this was on the website when i booked my wedding, but as my partner said we are paying the same amount of money as someone who books it now.

Im meeting with hotel Friday to pay off the wedding, Do you think i should say it to the hotel or would it sound cheeky?

    Thanks

If you don't ask, you won't get, would by my opinion here.
I'd aim for the lot, but push for the bar extension, the light back drop, and the food for late drinkers.

If you booked at the end of 2010 then you are due the VAT reduction that came in in June 2011, so 4.5% off the price (minus alcoholic drinks included).

You might find that they kept the price of the package the same but added a few extras to make up the difference that the VAT reduction made.

Bear in mind that you signed a contract for the agreed package, so they may come back and say that. Then again it cannot help to try....even if you get some of the package as an extra. Good luck!

I agree with the above. If you've already signed a contract for a package then that's what you've signed up for. Subsequent offers wouldn't apply to existing customers.
Having said that, there's nothing wrong with asking them and see if you may be able to get a few things thrown in. Don't ask, don't get. So at least try!

You're not guaranteed to get that VAT reduction. They don't have to pass it on, they were encouraged to do so but I don't think they're bound to it.

No. Tell them. "I presume we'll be getting the bar extension, light drop etc. that's included in the package?".

Even if they want to negotiate it then, you have them on the back foot from the off ;)

No they don't have to pass it on, especially if you got a deal cheaper/better than what is currently on offer. But if the price of the package is the same now as when they booked and now it has extras, I wouldn't be accepting worse than what's currently on offer.

It may seem right from the point of view of fairness. However, this rarely applies in business. If you go and buy a TV and the next month it's on sale, it's unlikely you'll get the difference for what you paid vs the current price, just because now it's cheaper than it was.
Businesses drop their prices or offer more for the same price to attract new business. They weren't getting the number of bookings they'd hoped, so they decided to include more for the price. This doesn't suddenly backdate and apply to all existing customers too. The VAT reduction is a good question to ask though. Since the VAT has dropped you can ask if they'll be passing on that reduction to you, it's bad image for them to say no, so it's a good negotiation point.
Sleepy's suggestion is good. Maybe if you put them in a "no/yes" situation with an assumption of their generosity they may budge and give you something extra.

It's a little different though Gattica, the OP won't have paid the hotel yet as per your example of a television. They still have the power to take their business elsewhere (even if it would mean losing a deposit).
