I splashed out earlier in the year and ordered A 2012 Giant TCR advanced 2 .(well saved up for around 6 months for it).For anyone who's not familiar with the bike its predominately white with some black. After ordering I was waiting 3 months for it which I wasn't too happy about but anyway it finally came in.Went down to collect and fellow that owns the bike shop said he would fit me out for it.So he put it up on a trainer and fitted me out.So paid up rest of the money and off I went happy out. When I got home I noticed white flakey stuff on the derailleur.Examined it and notice there was a nice chip of paint just where the quick release meets the end of the chainstay.Rang the bike shop just to mention it in case I have problems with paint later on.
He said its nothing, that often happens and use a dab of tipex and then clear laquer over it, both of which I had so thats what I did.
Then last week I noticed all the paint off the end of the front fork, again where it meets the quick release so did as I done earlier with tipex .Brought bike down to bike shop to show it to the owner. He passed it off and said thats only from changing the wheel .Now ,I only took off the wheel once.
I have had a couple of bikes over the years and it didn't happen to any of them so could anyone tell me is this normal or should I be making a bigger issue out it with my LBS.

Really need to see pictures, but the dropouts do get a bit raggedy from the teeth on the quick-release bolts. It's not something I'd lose any sleep over tbh.

I can't say I noticed any paint chips/wear on my TCR, but if I did then I would be looking for a "Demo-Bike" discount, as this should not be on a brand new bike...

I've a Focus Variado and I get paint flakes everytime I take a wheel off. I'm not happy about it but presume it's normal ...

keep a log of issues in case its a dud. there's normal/reasonable wear and tear and there's defective goods.
might be no harm putting in writing to the lbs that there may be a problem with the paint finish, that you will monitor it, suggest the supplier be notified (maybe an over reaction though, but if you ever go looking for your money back, you cant beat a letter on file)

A dud it definately ain't.I'm very happy with the bike overall .I didn't buy it second hand or anything like that.I bought it new from a fairly big bike shop that sell more Giant bikes than any other brand.Just going to keep an eye on it.I still have a long way to the end of my warrenty.Think if paint starts coming off anywhere else I def will be going back with bike.

I have the same bike and the same problems.

The finish is about as hard wearing as a smartie.

    Sweet bike though.

You'll get it on a lot of bikes. As already said, the first place to find paint chipping, especially with a lot of people tightening the quick release more than needed. You'll also see paint chips from stones on a lot of peoples bikes. It is pain at the end of the day Easy to chip paint from walls on scratch a car.

Though I do find the paint on old bikes whether to do with age or the type of lacquer used seems to be pretty rock solid stuff.

In work on some bikes that still have a 13mm bolt for the seattube I find the pressure can crack and chip the paint easily.
