    Hiya,

My new frame just arrived in the post, and it came with an FSA Orbit integrated headset. Everything seems to be fitting into the headset fine, i was just wondering about the crown race - can I install that myself or should I bring it to a bike shop?

    Cheers...

It's a press fit, difficult to do without a crown race setter or a suitable section of pipe.

If you're unsure, pop into your local shop, it's a quick job.

You can just do it yourself. Put an old pipe or hover handle over the steerer tube and use a wodden hammer to tap into place. I brought mine down to the LBS (who are great) and they told me they didn't have the tool as they just use a pipe themselves and he told me I'd be fine doing it myself.

The fork is still together 2 years later!

It's not just about seating the race properly, you don't want to employ any method that might damage the bearing surface. I'd be wary of any shop that didn't have the proper tool to be honest.

Cheers guys. Just tried to fit the pipe from the hoover over it and not only did it not quite fit I got some serious filthies off the better half :-D

Don't really have any similar bits of pipe lying around the place so I guess I'll be popping down the LBS. Thanks for the advice!

I had to change my headset a few months back. Installing the crown race is a 10 second job with the right tool so just bring it to the bike shop and you'll be out before you know it.
