BMW 318i E46/N42 Eccesntric Shaft Senor O-Ring

I was told by a BMW garage that I needed to replace the eccentric shaft sensor, so I asked for them to provide the parts since it's a simple job once you remove the rocker cover.

They didn't send the sensor though, instead they provided an o-ring, so a bit of miscommunication. I guess it's good news that the sensor is ok, and they've just identified a seal based on a small oil leak somewhere.

Anyone know this area, am I replacing a seal around the eccentric shaft sensor (towards the front of the engine), or maybe a seal at the far end of the shaft (towards the rear of the engine). Is is accessible, if it is towards the rear of the engine?

I really should list the part number and a link to the parts fiche; parts fiche it looks like the o-ring goes on a bracket that attaches to the rear of the cam shaft.

First time working on a car...but I'd have no problem doing any work from the top of the engine (need to replace the rocker cover gasket, already replaced solenoid valve and vale o-rings)

Edit: I should add that I've been at the wine so excuse the typos! :D
