Sportif Waterfords : 3 Counties Cycle Challenge

Hi All,

On July the 15th Sportif Waterford CC are holding our third 3 county Challenge. This years main spin is 160km starting in the RSC at 10 am. There is also a shorter 65km spin available. This promises to be a great day, as we have been guranteed sun in all three counties.

Did this last year and it was great. I would definitely recommend it. Hopefully, you will get the help of some lads at the car park on the Vee if you get dropped like I did. They spend all day going up and down it for practice. Helped me get back on to the group for the rest of the sportive. The fact that he was about 20 years older than me was irrelelevant

Super event last year, and promises to be another great spin next week. A road closure between Clonmel and Ardfinnan means a slight detour which only adds 3k to the overall distance. The route goes into Dungarvan this year. 63k route remains unchanged. See you all there hopefully.

I'm interested in this having popped my cherry at the ROK. What is the pace like on the 160K? Based on the ROK I'm just a 25kmher so will I be left grovelling in the dust?

I'm driving the lead car for the 160k route. As last year I would expect the lead group to average over 30kph, as it is a fast route with the Vee being the only real climb. However also like last year there will be slower groups coming behind, and you certainly won't find yourself on your own while cycling at 25kph. Weather looks like it might favour us, so come along and join us as this was a great event last year, with 2 very good routes and loads of good food during and after the event.
