Bought the exact same product for a third of the price off ebay (non brand name) and it got through fine.
Does the exact same job, have it over a year and love it.

Dont mean to butt in here but I know the one that Rabbit Assasin got- that's how I ended up with mine. I got the the Optimus ND5 and I'm seriously impressed. I've used the Laser Genetics ND3x50 subzero and it's every bit as good- I'd even say slightly better as I can open the beam up much wider and use it for scanning. Most importantly it's only a fraction of the price although it seems to have gone up slightly on eBay.

no bother moby. just wanna know whats it like for foxes. does it spook em.

I've shot about 12 of them with it and so far none have been spooked by the laser. I still wouldn't go as far as saying your guaranteed to get your fox though. It's something different and takes a bit if practice as you don't use them like lamps and obviously there's a lot more to foxing.

Well the thing about my area is that the foxes are so lamp shy due to the few local clowns firing and not having a clue what they're at. The closest I could really call a fox into is maybe 250-300 yards then thats it. With the optimus nd5 it has cut my lamp time down to the point that Im only using the big lamp to quick scan and spot eyes. I am now at the point where I can call foxes into 100 or less yards and easily keep full sight of them. It doesnt seem to cause the fox any concern until they get almost within shotgun range. Cant recommend it enough, especially for lamp shy foxes.

I ordered it on a Thursday evening and had it in just over a week. It arrived the following Friday morning regular post. Was very very pleased with the service. It said on the item description on the package that it was a torch, I have heard that this can greatly affect how it is treated in customs. I'd say if it was described as a high power laser illuminator thered be complications. . . .

Have ye got to use this in winter cold yet or was it all summer shooting? I know the non subzero ND3's were flops because they didnt work in cold.

I only have it a few weeks Garv so cannot say for sure what the cold weather will do to it. It does say it will work to -12 c but I'll just have to wait and see. There's a site called scottcountry.com selling a thing for non sub zero laser genetics that will allow them to work in cold conditions. Doesn't have a pic of it yet but costs $30. Apparently its the batteries and not the laser itself that the cold effects? Was out again tonight with it and am seriously impressed.

Garv the device itself works perfect all year round I find, its the weather that can affect the beam. You know that almost barely visibly foggy misty spray that comes out at night during winter that leaves everything damp? Thats a pain in the ar$e. It limits your visibility through the scope drastically. Nothing to do with the light itself its just the weather.

hey lads back again. i got my nd3x50 and its fairly good to be fair. only problem is the weather is affecting the life of the batteries. the ones i had recieved with it were cheap jap ones so maybe that was the problem. i was thinking of getting the scotts country kit does anyone know what there like or does anyone have any pictures of it. i cant find any pictures of it on the web.
As for the nd3x50 performance when its going its unreal. i have a 4.5-14x50 leupold and i could make out a stake easy at 350 yrds from one end of the field to the other .

What width is the beam at 150 yds approx.

the beam is ajustable you can make it 50mm - 132mm. when you look through your scope you adjust the beam to fit the sight picture. if you zoom your scope in, you widen the laser to suit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭minktrapper

Would that mean you would be able to lamp a rabbit at 150 yds and just see the rabbit only at that distance and none of the surrounding area.Or a fox head only. How do find your target if the beam is so narrow.

hey minktrapper it is kinda hard to explain. here is a review on it you can have a look to the bit where he does the distances. might give you more insight.

    hope it answers your questions

With the Optimus I can use it to scan a field easily. I'll work it out later but roughly the beam is about 30/40yards wide at 150 yrds .It can be focused down to millimetres. I carry a led lenser but hardly use it anymore to be honest.
