Scottish Rugby Strategic Plan

Scotlands released their new strategic plan (http://www.scottishrugby.org/srusp2012/). Aims include a Grand Slam by 2016 and winning the 2015 RWC. Bit pie in the sky stuff, I know their only aims and as the old saying goes, aim for the stars and reach the moon but surely they'd have been better off choosing something more achievable. IMO having such over ambitous objectives only serves to devalue the rest of the plan and they'd be better off giving players and management a reasonable target to aim for such as 4th or better in the 6N 2 years in a row which they havent done since 2002-2003. 2006 is the last time they've registered more than a single victory in the 6N.

Two words that will sink that plan:

    Scott Johnson

Interesting that on the how we will do it page they highlight "instigating" a scouting network for Scottish eligible players and will be increasing "investment and support" to clubs in the British and Irish Cup.

I think piggy's will be flying before Scotland will win the World Cup.

What's Johnson's role at Scotland? And more to the point, how on earth does that man keep getting jobs?

As shown by Edinburgh's QF against Toulouse - the only sure fire way to attract supporters and generate income is success. Glasgow and Edinburgh both did well in the season just gone and that will help them if they can build on it.

it will be good for world rugby, if Scotland become competetive again, they have been dreadful in recent years, even allowing for their recent victory in Oz

Edinburgh did well in the HC but poorly in the Rabo and with Glasgow it was the reverse. They both need to be more consistent. With Scotland only having 2 pro clubs they really should be doing better. 11 Celtic League titles and not one going to a Scottish team and only 1 semi-final appearance for Scottish sides in 17 years of the HC. Pretty poor IMHO.

If they don't aim high they won't get there.

They should be aiming for something more realistic while also not making them out to be a crap team. Something like finish 3rd two years in a row, meaning that they'd have to finish ahead of at least two of Ireland, England, Wales and France.

Do I think they'll get to that level in the next 4 years? No. If they develop the sport properly though they could potentially be challenging for the 6N in 10/15 years time.

The world cup one is just plain stupid. We won't be winning a WC anytime soon let alone them.
