Video and Graphics

Looking for some help, but not sure if this is the right forum.

I have a Dell XPS system running Win7 (64 bit) on Quad Core i7s, with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M, and Dell Realtek HD Audio. However, there also seems to be an Intel graphics card and and Intel sound card in the machine (as well as the standard Intel wireless connection).

Basically, when I play video or music on my laptop, I get this very annoying high pitched distortion every few minutes. It seems to be random, lasts for 4 - 5 seconds and can not appear for 2 hours or can happen every minute or so. It will also freeze the video that is playing, be it on my laptop or YouTube, etc.

I am wondering if anybody else encountered this problem, and how did they solve it. I've tried downloading the newest software and drivers for the NVIDIA and Realtek, but it hasn't worked. Also, it doesn't seem to affect the sound or gameplay when I play games like C&C, Civ or the likes.

    Any ideas are gratefully appreciated.

This may be a long shot but... Try updating the bios? I think I may have encountered this before but I usually ignore it and it's happened twice tops.

EDIT: granted I don't use the same machine, but still.

Have you tried switching between the Intel and NVIDIA graphics?
