Mini Super 2000 IRC Rally cars

    Do Mini build/make 2 litre engines for the IRC Super 2000 rally cars?

    I thought that the Mini only came in 1.6 engine format.

    Well according to the IRC Corsican rally coverage on Setanta today.

    Dani Sordos works Mini is a Super 2000 2 litre N/A engined rally car.

    I did read the link,.

    But didnt jcw or prodrive also build 10-20 S2000 2 litre N/A Minis for 2012

    I think they may have and some of the S2000 Minis are in IRC at the moment and not WRC.

    IRC is different to WRC btw.

    Well, the Prodrive designed Mini is running a 1.6 BMW Turbo, no matter if it is for the WRC or RRC specification.

    The base Mini is the same basic structure, but the difference is that the WRC has different brakes, aero, turbo restricter & engine map. The RRC & WRC cars can be converted back and forth at will.

    The WRC is eligible for WRC events while the RRC is eligible for the regional championships and the IRC. The confusion might arise because the RRC and true S2000 cars compete for the IRC and typically run in the same class.

    Nope, the Mini RRC is running a 1.6 Turbo. The WRC version runs the same engine with a bigger restrictor.

    The "S2000" name can be confusing as the first cars were n/a 2000cc machines but thanks to the FIA reorganizing the classes, the S2000 cars and the RRC cars run in the same class.

    So why call it an S2000 car (S2000 being a 2 litre n/a engine) if the Mini is not a propper S2000 car??
