    Hi there,
Does anyone have a map available (I was searching here, but seems temporarily removed: http://www.dublincitycycling.ie/cycling-facilities/cycle-lanes-and-facilities) of the Dublin Canal Cycle Paths?

Basically, I want to cycle from Baggot Street Bridge on the south side of the city to Clontarf on north side (Eastpoint Business Park, Alfie Byrne Road, actually) and was wondering if there was a path the whole way. Anyone done that route? A lot of big traffic around East Wall I am trying to avoid...

    Many thanks for insights.

There's no path between the two. From the quays I go East Rd > East Wall Rd > Alfie Byrne Rd. The road is crappy most of the way, and the junction of East wall Rd and Alfie Byrne Rd is a complete mess with the surface torn apart by heavy traffic. There's an excuse for a cycle track on the footpath for the last 150m or so of your journey but that's about it.

thanks for routing. I guess traffic at peak morning is heavy?

Shame there's no complete path. Perhaps with Google now on EastPoint more pressure can be brought to bear on "the authorities" (LOL).

I'd imagine it is, although I don't know as I only ever go that way on my way home. I've never found it too bad to be honest. The road surface is more of a problem than traffic.

You would have had an off-road route 99% of the way but you can ask the city councillors about that. See here: http://dublinobserver.com/2011/02/millions-for-strategic-cycle-route-suspended-due-to-objections/

There's two main routes for the trip, mapped here -- [1] in red: busy, mostly larger roads where you mix with many HGVs; and [2] in blue: an off-road route for about half the way and mostly smaller roads.

It depends on what kind of cycling conditions you want.

I've added in possible alternative sections to the blue route to avoid some of the flaws, and you may also want to use a mix of the blue and red route.

This is the exact route that I had been wondering myself! I've been taking the Pearse St/Amien St route only because its what I'm used to. Is there an exit at Fairview Park by the Alfie Byrne Rd (I'm coming from Malahide Rd)??
Thanks for mapping out the route - so handy!
