Are things falling into place for Derval to have a shot at an Olympic Medal ?

At the canidan trials , lopes schliep and felicein , two of the world's top hurlders fro many years failed to make the team, one hitting a hurdle and the other false starting.
though they do still have 3 strong hurlders , with pb's slower than O'Rourke's NR , and with not as much championship experience its a big plus for Derval going into London.

Yanit seems back in form though which is worrying. Nytra , Talai and Porter other european hurlders in good form.
    Vukiecicic out of form.

Us Trials were interestng, Carrutters not making team, or castlin.

Lolo not in the form she was a few years back.
Kellie wells and dawn harper look good.

of course pearson is favourite, but after that its all up for graps , if derval can get back to 2010 form she is in with a shot of a bronze i think

I don't think Derval needs to worry about others but getting back to form of 2010 there is a huge question mark.
Would have liked to see her run Europeans and get the three rounds under her belt(if she was in the form to do so)

For me there are too many question marks but never write Derval off as she has shown she is a championship performer.

My heart says she can make the final but my brain says no.
Rob Heffernan has a much better chance of a medal.

Last year she was looking great ahead of Daegu. She ran her best ever non championship performance (12.84). The event was weak last year and I have no doubt she would have been 4th or 5th in Daegu. However she doesn't seem to be in form as of yet. Until we see a sub 13 clocking then it is hard to be too optimistic.

I know she is normally a Championship performer but this year I think it will be an achievement to make the final let alone medal.

Zelinka is no push over and has proved her consistency 12.76 and 12.68 in the last month and seems to be rounding into form well

Lolo Jones is not running as quick since Beijing but has ran 12.75 consistently every year since so should not be discounted in terms of finalists.

Pearsons dominance of the sport coupled with the strong European presence with Porter, Yanit and Nytra

Add in the Jamaican contingent and Foster Hyltons resurgence I think that Derval will have to run 12.6x to make the final and I honestly can't see her doing that

Having said that would love to be proven wrong

I don't think 12.6x will be necessary to make Olympic final. I think anyone posting in the region of sub 12.80secs in the semis will have a superb chance of getting into the final.

Only one person in Bejing made it to the final with a 12.80 or slower with only 2 running slower than 12.70 and IMO the standard in the event (maybe just the top end) has improved a bit since then with many of the same runners still being around and the improvement of the Europeans.

It could be slower but I think that only conditions that would affect this rather than standard of athlete

12.84 made the final in Daegu last year.
