The Irish Times recently ran an article based on their best place to live winner, http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/weekend/2012/0630/1224319008079.html

One thing i noticed was the level of cooperation between local authority and voluntary groups and between voluntary groups themselves.

What can we learn from Westport?

They didn't cave to out of town shopping. Respect. But then neither did Waterford. Aside from that, I think Waterford and Westport are very different places, mainly because of size.

I'd consider Westport to be more similar to Dungarvan than Waterford city itself.

It's much smaller, and the main thing that's keeping it going is Alergan. Pretty much the same as Dungarvan/Gsk
