I recently got an apple MacBook pro the battery life is excellent. I am just wondering what way should I charge the mac to ensure the battery stays at top performance for as long as possible. Should I leave it plugged in when I can or should I always let the battery life drop low before charging? Any advice is appreciated thanks.

Long story short. Don't keep it plugged in all the time, don't let it run down too low before charging it.

Yeah, definitely don't leave it plugged in for long periods of time. I left my MBP plugged in for over a year. I recently disconnected it and started running on battery again. I had a few sudden shutdowns (probably due to that stupid Internet Sharing bug in Lion) and the status bar says "Service Battery". Still, it's hanging in there.

You should do a total discharge/recharge about once a month or so. Other than that I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just charge when you need to.
