I switched over to freesat and saorview recently.

There are a number of options. Check www.tvtrade.ie and www.amazon.co.uk

I have a Echostar HDS-600 which cost £169. Sets up quickly using the exisiting Sky dish. 500GB storage. All the UK channels. Picture & sound very good.

Humax though would be the more popular freesat box.

I have a Triax box for Saorview - costs around €85. Can record to a USB stick or external hard drive. (From what I have read on boards, your best bet is to go for a Saorview approved box to guarantee future compatability.)

Hi I am interested in the triax box you talk of that you can record on. Do you find it reliable ? I have a triax 114 it's functionality is great , it has been set up in such a way that it is causing problems. I think it us the set up rather than the actual box. Which exact model have you for 85 e ? Thanks

I have a Triax TR112 which retails at €85 (this only gives the Irish channels). I gave a loan of this to my Dad. I haven't done any recordings on this box yet.

I have a TSC114 also which I recorded a couple of programmes from. The USB stick I have is too small (did a test record and it worked). So I used a Tosiba 1.5TB external hard drive and this worked well. This hard drive has an external power supply - some people say that can make a difference.

I saw in some of your other posts you have tried recordings on the TSC114 and then switched to other channels. My recordings I have been very basic. I have a freesat box which I use for recording UK channels - don't really record many Irish programmes.
