Looking to buy one of these in the near future. Can anyone recommend where to get one as reasonably priced as possible?

It's the 1.6 diesel I'm looking for which came out in 2009 I think.

I've looked on Ebay & Autotrader UK/IE and the prices vary greatly.

Also any buying tips would be appreciated.

They are poor value for money imo as you are paying a premium for the Audi badge. It is a 9 year old design at this stage with the new model launching towards the end of the year. The Golf/Octavia/Leon on which it is based do everything as well as the A3 but cost less to buy and are probably better equipped.

1.6 diesel was launched in the A3 in 2010/2011 afaik.

I take your points but the Audi has much more pizazz. Could you suggestive an alternative?

    BMW 1series, Citroen ds4,

Anyone who thinks people will be impressed by an a3 is deluded.

BMW - too much of a "premium" brand for me

    Citroen - couldn't even contemplate

Not out to impress - I just like the car

So the BMW which would actually be decent to drive is too premium, but it's ok to spend over the odds for tarted up old model golf from 9 years ago?

    I don't get it.

Looked at BMW 118d hatchbacks and they seem to be cheaper than the Audi A3.

Are they reliable and as reasonable to run?

Another thought on the BMW - the diesel is a 2.0 engine so when the motor tax reforms are implemented next year - possible reversion to old system - the annual motor tax will be higher than the Audi A3 1.6.

If they did that the difference is minimum for a far superior and more powerful car.

There's nothing to suggest they'd go back to a cc based system, or that they would retrospectively change the basis of taxation on cars already registered as opposed to new car registrations after the possible change.
