I think this is a good news story for Rugby. If you get promoted, then you should be able to play in the top flight and RFU had to be more flexible. The RFU were deemed to have broken EU & UK competition laws with their old boys closed door policies.

Newcastle has been consistently been one of the poorest side in the top flight and they will never develop unless they get the proverbial kick in the backside that Northampton and Harlequins got when they went down.
Exeter has proved already that with good organisation, a new club can flourish in the Premiership.

Well done to London Welsh and I look forward to seeing them and hopefully, London Scottish playing well in the top flight of English rugby again.

I don't think them playing Oxford is going to work out.

Newcastle fans are going to be very bitter over this!

Great to see the RFU are able to adapt to changes very quickly these days, Ritchie has been a good appointment. London Welsh have witnessed a huge amount of change over the past few months... Will they be able to sustain it for a season? In Oxford? I dont know about that. I think moving the entire team an hour away is a bit harsh on fans. However premiership rugby is probably worth it in their eyes. They need to keep showing up though.

Not the RFU as a whole, but there are guys there who are forcing a change in culture from before. The RFU of 4 years ago would never have looked into making any changes.

Justice was the winner. Well done London Welsh and cheers RFU for getting a grip at last...

And now they're going to sign Henson, according to the Sunday rumour mill.

Most Irish provincial fans travel more than an hour. I guess it depends on the success of the team and the the way the games are marketed and presented. I'm sure they will have buses or something from their original ground. It's not that difficult to organise good logistics. Surely there must be a huge ex pat potential fan base for them now that they are in top flight?

Huge blow to rugby in the north of England first losing Leeds and now Newcastle. Newcastle probably have grounds for legal action considering they've spent heavily on new players based largely on them being in the AP next season

LW deserve to get promoted but they'll need to do some serious recruiting in the next month.

All done and dusted now. Falcons not going to appeal.

It kinda makes sense not to appeal I think. Now they can focus exactly on what they will be ding next season whereas if they appealed it would drag on and they'd be unprepared mentally for the season ahead.

I don't know how successful an appeal would be anyway.

Unless they have financial troubles next season, they'll bounce back to the Premiership with their squad.

    Henson signs for Welsh.

This is a bad move for Welsh. Cheap short term publicity will cost them dear when they find they are not getting value for money from Henson. He's washed up and has no desire to return to anything like the standard that he was back in 05.
This is his fourth attempt at a return to pro rugby. Far better players have been dismissed for less.

With Henson it's really hard to know how it's going to go. I did think though that himself and Roberts before the RWC were starting to look pretty handy for Wales.

The coach of London Welsh used to coach him at The Ospreys so he should know Henson and what he's capable of. Plus they're talking about playing him at 10 as opposed to 15 where Cardiff mostly played him.

Maybe I'm just a bleeding heart liberal :) but I do hope it works out this time.

I would absolutely love it if Henson had an amazing season, like Roy of the Rovers stuff, keep the newly promoted team in the top flight etc.

I never understand people who wish him ill, any talent that goes unfulfilled is a sad thing and nothing beats a comeback story.

I certainly don't wish him ill but I do think he is beyond any return to his best form.

Lyn Jones had a good comment on him during the week:

"There's a good chance he'll never reach those heights (of his time at the Ospreys) again to be honest with you, but he just needs to get up to speed and establish himself and I'm not really confident he'll became a very, very good player until about maybe mid-October, November," Jones told Sky Sports News."The guy needs a bit of time, he needs a bit of space, his tools are quite blunt and he'll need to sharpen them up, so he's got a lot of work ahead of him that he's prepared to get on with.

"He's rolling his sleeves up, and all you can do is offer people opportunities and it's up to them how they take it but we're confident that he can deliver."
