    Hi guys
I'm really considering buying a merc e270 as my new taxi. I'm changing from a pug 407 and have fell in love with the merc. The only problem is it has 180,000 kms. I have about 10k to spend. What's the general consensus on the mercs

180km is nothing to these engine if it has been properly serviced. You'd want to be getting this car for a song as the market for diesels has basically collapsed for anything over 2.0litre.

Check the auto gear box is running smooth....I'd change the fluid here anyway. The suspension bushes wear around this mileage and if it's knocking ....it's a great bargaining tool.

Get the car for a song, give it a full full service....budget 600€ for everything done and you'll have a very comfy workplace.

Besta luck and the pug is a tin box re the Merc as your office says me.

Youd probably work harder in something you enjoy. Id go with the merc but make sure its a good one. As the years went on the E became very reliable so an 06 one should be good. I think the early ones could have expensive gearbox problems with coolant leaks through the cooler into the transmission. I am unsure what years were affected.

The e220 cdi is a very good engine. Originally in 150bhp form.....a very reliable unit. 200km on my last one......not one mechanical issue but the elbow rest bubbled. An utterly boring , comfy seat car with great economy.

To the op avoid like venereal disease high mileage Bm 530ds. I had a few of them......they are great when new but as they age, I had maf issues, caked in crud manifolds......swirf flaps gummed, .....cabin gets tired faster.

You'll pick up a e270 cheaper than a 220. A 5 cyl engine was a massive flywheel to keep engine balanced.....a good engine
