    VANITY

    All is vanity
    What profits has man found
    Toil the soil
    Under the light
    Upon this ground

    We live we die
    Yet still the same
As the light in the sky

    Wind blows north
    Wind blows south
    Always returns
    Without a doubt

    Rivers run free
    To fill the sea
    yet never full

    Just as mouth can’t speak
    Eye can’t see
    Ear can’t hear

    I ask in wisdom
    All I can see
    Under the light
    Given to me

    I’ve seen it all
    Under the light
    it’s vanity

    Let it alone
    It is what it is
    Just as the sum
    It stands on it’s own

    Wise in my years
    I have no equal
    Done all the work
    Vanity fall

    In my wisdom is madness
    And knowing is pain
    Chasing profit
    Is vanity’s gain

    I’ll try pleasure and life
    Laughter and fun
    But know only too well
    It profits no one

    I drank to cheer
    And to find
    If this was the answer
The few days of my life

    I planted and built
    And took many wives
    I accumulated wealth
    Thinking this was the prize

    A time for war
    A time for peace
    Life and death
    Plant and seed

    Eat and drink
    toil and see
    That it’s not for man
    The good of thee
