Looks like all the old Merc's, Toyota's are going out on ship containers weekly headed for Africa. A damn shame.

Why, has there been an announcement on vrt rebates?

This has been happening for quite a while, especially with the old Toyotas. It's nearly impossible to get hold of a mid-late 90's hilux or hiace, as they're heading to Africa.

These vehicles command a huge premium price in Africa due to their reliability, ease of parts supply and most village idiots have worked on a Toyota out there. A hilux selling for €1500 here could treble its money easily.

There's a compound a few miles from me full to the gills with Toyotas, Isuzus and suzukis, jeeps, cars, vans and pick-ups, all headed for export. The guys who are renting it spend their full time buying up japanese metal, filling the compound and then it empties again, fills and empties(I pass it daily going to work. They cram the vans and pick-ups full of engines and spares and weld the doors shut for the trip. I think it's kindof a pity as there will be very few older good vehicles left for us. The same goes for plant, ie diggers. In a year or two only the sh1te will be left and it will be mad money to buy - it's happening already, mini-diggers are very expensive at the mo and scarce, export export export. :( Funnily enough, they have no interest whatsoever in anything french, Italian or Ford. They are also fairly unkeen on German stuff except the older Merc cars.....

It's not the worst all the same. Better to see them exported and used than crushed.

I wonder why they are not buying up all the old ducatos, relays and Boxers??:D

There's merit to it alright, but on the flip side, I've been on the lookout for an 80 series landcruiser in decent nick as a project but all that's left here is rust with an engine!

It's more likely that the sh1te is being exported - that's where those traders make their money. Most mint 90s Japanese cars are probably already owned by enthusiasts and will be safe :)

Trucks are the same. Most of the Hino tippers are gone to Oz at this stage. If you had a Hino from the late ninties its fairly valuable now..

No half respecting rebel army would be caught dead without their Hilux.
