Looks like the IAC just got a business competitor..

An AOC is a Aircraft Operators certificate

It permits companies to operate commercial aviation service, in this regard the OP has said a company has got it for providing a commercial Air Ambulance service.

if they are a commercial company they don't have to be tasked by anyone, private hire would be the obvious work to me, like all the rest of the private ambulance services, out door gigs, private transfers, contracted out to the hse when they are busy etc, etc!!!!

New Irish Coast Guard helicopter service launched today 1st July. The S-92 is now the frontline asset operating out of Shannon, started duty at lunch time yesterday. I believe part of the the medical suite allows for two stretchers to be carried securely.

The polite thing to do is give the full description of whatever you are talking about before introducing abbreviations. Just fyi.

Ok QC fyi. S-92 is a (Sikorsky) 92, which I believe is the first of a new fleet of SAR ( search and rescue) helicopters under a new contract which starts today the 1st of July. I understand that these aircraft will be rolled out over the next eighteen months at the remaining bases of Sligo, Dublin and Waterford. They will also be equipped and certified to carry out HEMS ( helicopter emergency medical service) operations. So, in effect when fully rolled out, you will have the IAC (Irish Air Corps) operating out of the midlands and IRCG ( Irish Coast Guard) from their current bases.
