I have a Renault scenic and it will probably need a few bits done to it to get through the nct. There is 6 months left on it at the moment. Would they allow me to put it through the nct now to see what needs to be done and I can use the 6 months to get it fixed and retested? If they failed it now would I be still able to continue driving it?

You be better off waiting until the 6 months are up and just get it retested then. If you go now you will have to pay for a full test and then again in 6 months time - thats €110. If you wait and then get it retest it will be around €82. (I think!).

You can test car earlier than the disc date, up to 3 months in advance for an older car.
From the test date you have one month to fix the issues (otherwise it's a full test again at 55 euro).
If the car isn't deemed dangerous you can still drive it during this period.

If there is stuff you're certain it will fail on you should probably fix them now anyway.
