I just went on to adverts.ie and there on the front page was a Vodafone advert with a rainbow in the background and their latest promotion called "double up your summer" on a pink background:)

Have you seen other blatantly gay adverts?

Are vodafone insinuating that gay people communicate by means of mobile phones? I thought it was still widely suspected (at least in the scientific community) that we communicate with sonar waves emitted from our tail bones?

    Feck!n Science!

    Pink background = blatantly gay?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I was half expecting Mick Wallace's face to pop up from the end of the Rainbow but that would bugger up any positive effect of the advert

So any photo or ad with a rainbow is DEFINITELY aimed at the gays ? Are you for real ?
It is a summer ad ,,,simple as that

PS I watched a kids programme on tv this morning there was a rainbow in a scene ,was this a gay tv programme as well ?

First google image for "double up your summer":

^ Yeah you can just feel the blatant homosexual vibes radiating off that. Looks more like an ad for Electric Picnic or something!

As regards other gay ads, Oreos have gone gay recently! Whatever about the gay pride thing, I just love the idea of a seven-filling oreo...

Ben & Jerry's also once renamed their Apple Pie ice-cream to support gay marriage. :)

So that's two snack foods....the LGBT community must be full of sweet tooths!

Why does pink have to be associated with being gay?

I hate pink. I much prefer black and other darker colours.

    Wearing pink is a choice.

It doesn't have to be. It is a of course a choice. I would say the nostalgic part of me would hate to see the name of pink training changed.

The idealist in me would like to think that if a corporation like Vodafone were to make an advert supporting gay pride they'd be more blatant about it, rather than subtly sticking a rainbow in the background.

Anyway that advert has to with summer, it made me lol that it was construed otherwise. One track mind

I guess we should reclaim leprechauns as LGBTQ symbols, all that innuendo, with pots of gold hidden at the end of rainbows and such larks :p

It comes from history. The gay inmates of the concentration camps were forced to wear a pink triangle to show why they were there, much like the Jewish prisoners who were forced to wear a star of David. In the subsequent gay rights struggle, the pink triangle was taken on by the movement to reclaim their pride and turn something that was used against us into a positive symbol of strength.

How is that vodafone ad gay in any way? It's supposed to be eye catching and bright because it's summer.

I think you're reading too much into this.

Haven't seen any gay/pride adverts btw

Wasn't the colour pink used before the Nazis as a reference to gay people?

I didn't see any adverts in advance of Pride but good to see it getting media coverage

    Some of the comments underneath the article are amazingly ignorant. The most like comment is the following at 6 likes;
What is the point of these parades? I don't go around marchin and blowing whistles shouting I like to have sex with the opposite sex! So why should they?

Followed by the following at 4 likes:
"thou shalt not lie with a man as you wou with a woman" the Bible does not change

Gives you a flavour of the people who read the Irish Independent.
