Yep it does indeed! .. but it does not work on all devices yet. if your like me and no amount of messing about got it to work you could try this little trick.

Go into offline mode and within the red box scroll across to the UK, the box should turn Blue, (if not resize your selection until it turns Blue) now scroll back over to Ireland and you will see it now downloads the data no problem.

I'm just downloading a chunk of Dublin @78.4 Mb and all is going well.
Cant say it works for every part of Ireland that's how I got it to work.

Didn't work for me on the galaxy nexus. though if you live in Dundalk it works, but that is as far as it goes from the North, if they can have it for N.Ireland why not the whole island at the same time. ah well, works when up there so no roaming charges!

Not working anywhere for me on a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Vodafone).
I suspect that the users "dragging" from the UK are in a race condition regarding either the client or server "realizing" where the user is looking.

Here's my screen after I messed around over in the UK before coming back to Ireland

I dragged the screen over from Wales and it gave the OK initially then <.5 seconds later reverted to the "Not here, you don't" message.
It's one thing to not cover everywhere, but to officially (check the link in the OP) not support an entire country? What's the story?

Figured out the starting off in the UK and scrolling over to Ireland trick last night myself. Thought I'd check here today to see if it was just me but obviously not. Downloaded a good portion of the east of Ireland doing this.

However I'm still don't see the advantages of this over the previous cache method which I asked a about here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=79072431 a few weeks ago.

You still can't navigate without a data connection.

I presume that the Google servers are doing the routing calculations but I'm sure that the device itself could do it. There's another project for the weekend...
