Now in it's second year and organised by Dunleer AC, the Dunleer 4 Mile Road Race is back!

    Where: Dunleer Village
    When: Sunday August 12th 2012 @ 3pm
    Fee: 15 euro

    Online Entry: www.runireland.ie

Entry also on the day at Dunleer Pavilion from 12:15-14:15, price still just 15 euro.

Prizes: In usual categories with bonus for course records.

2011 Mens' champion: Andrew Ledwith- 19:41
    2011 Women's champion: Fiona Roche- 23:15

AAI permitted race, distance certified, chip timing. Lots of refreshments available after the race in the Dunleer Pavilion! Great value club race.

I'm not involved directly with the organisation of the race, but I'm a member of Dunleer AC so will do my best to answer any queries! :) Will get out soon and run the course and upload a course profile but if anyone did the race last year and has one, feel free to stick it up!

Comparable to Dunshaughlin last week, lots of tea, coffee and more sandwiches, cakes, and biscuits than you can shake a stick at! Good depth of field as well for the likes of yourself who would be at the sharp end of the race.

Folks, here's a link to have a look at the course for the upcoming race:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/176811829

I've run the course hundreds of times and I can say it's a good one, a real runners course. Very fast for the first two miles, a slight but steady incline at the start of the third mile for about 1/2 a mile then a downhill stretch. One more climb at the start of the fourth mile, a bit steeper than the first but only short then the last half of a mile is fast and downhill and you run towards Dunleer village for finish.

    Hey guys,

Any ideas on how to sign-up online for this: http://www.runireland.com/events/dunleer-4-mile-road-race

Seems like the 'enter now' link doesn't seem to lead anywhere!

Yes, you're dead right there seems to be something wrong with that link. I am heading into the club tonight will pass that on and we will get that sorted ASAP, will report back when it's fixed. Thanks a lot for letting us know about that! :)

and the race ends pretty much just outside the door of Sheamans :D

have ye ever though of having the afters out the back of shearmans or would you rather it up in the centre?

We might just funnel everyone straight into Shearmans at the end of the race! :D

I think the pavillion is being used because it's also acting as the race HQ. People will sign up there and pick up numbers on the day and it's also where most people will park because there's lot's of parking up there and at the clubrooms. Also it's much bigger so will be able to cope with the crowds.

Shearmans is for the late night post race celebrations! ;)

Hi Chet, we figured out the problem! :) That link you're using is for last years race entry. If you use this link you should be able to sign up with no problems!

Hope you enjoy the race, see you there!

From the Dunleer AC Facebook page:

Breaking news is that last years Ladies Winner Fiona Roche will return to defend her crown...Can anyone topple Fiona? Will Fiona win again? Maybe she will break her course record which she set last year? In the mens race it looks like we will have a new winner this year...will Dunleer Athleticclub's Martin Quinn, delight the Dunleer faithful with a home town win, or will the evergreen Gary O'Hanlon be able to beat the home town boy. Will any of these be able to beat Andrew Ledwith's time of 19.41?...Come on down, see you all on Sunday 12th August...Remember if you are not in you cannot win.

    :)

OK folks only a week left now until the second running of the Dunleer 4 mile road race. Entries are coming in online and we are hoping to surpass last years number of 350. I know it'a busy weekend for races next weekend and we are competing with the Port Tunnel run but we would really appreciate your support by coming up and competing in our club event. Remember only 15 euro to enter and proceeds raised go back into developing and funding the club. For that you will get an accurately measured course, chip timing, prizes in usual categories as well as course bonuses and what promises to be a super spread after the race! We would appreciate if people could register online as it makes things much easier on the day but we know this isn't always possible so registration on the day is from 12:15-14:15 (with no increase in price). Hopefully see some of you there. :)

    Online reg here: http://www.runireland.com/events/dunleer-4-mile-road-race-0

Hey man, that link doesn't bring you anywhere does it? I get to here after I hit 'Enter now': http://www.runireland.com/forms/dunleer-4-mile-2012

Do you need to register with the site first...?

Hi riveratom, apologies about that. We seem to be having some problems with the online reg with RunIreland (on their side) and we have had to close the online registration early. On the day registration is still available though on Sunday at the Pavilion from 12:15-14:15 with no increase in price, still 15 euro. Apologies again but the RunIreland problems are a little out of our hands.

Good Luck to all running tomorrow, we hope you really enjoy the event. Remember on the day reg is available tomorrow from 12:15-14:15 at the Pavilion. Lets just hope the sun shines!

Very well done to everyone who completed the second running of the race today.

    Results are available here: http://www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer?v=%252Fen%252Frace%252Fshow%252F964%253Flayout%253Dprecision_timing

I think everyone agreed it was a fantastic day with close to 350 runners tackling the course and being rewarded with a superb spread in the Pavilion afterwards. Thanks to everyone who competed, marshalled, and generally helped out in anyway. Make sure to put the race in your diary for next year. If any photos pop up I'll link them here.

If there was a poll for this, it'd get 5 stars. I must've eaten close to my own body weight in sandwiches and every possible type of treat at the spread afterwards. And, it actually took a van to get all of the prizes in the door for the prizegiving. I'm completely biased given it's my own club's race, but I was so impressed with how everything was done by the team here. Truly a fantastic race, organised by runners for runners.
