Going to Tesco Naas on Saturday, where abouts in the store are the homebrew bits

In the back corner opposite the tills next to gardening and BBQ section, it's quite a large section so not easily missed...

Any idea what sort of stuff they have in the way of equipment and yeast etc? Thanks

I got muntons and coopers BKE and a few lager kits, they had kegs and fermenter,
a lot of wine kits and wine yeast, I got a CO2 injection system and a few bags of CO2 capsules.
Bottles, caps, corks, brushes and sterilizing solution were all half price.
A lot of young's and john bull kits left.

They also had a couple of complete coopers 40 pint kits, complete with fermenter reduced from 90 to 45 euro.

I'm afraid those last two Coopers kits went this morning ;)

There are about 5 5 gallon pressure barrels left.
2 23 liter fermentation buckets and loads of extract kits left.
Also, spares like CO2 refills, siphons, yeast etc.

The 5 gallon pressure barrels look like the ones on the Home Brew West site for €42.
In Tesco the barrel is €16.40, Valve is €11.40 and the gas re-fills are €3.80.

I bought loads for myself and those kits for the family. On my second run, the manager Alan helped me load the car. :)

Should have enough to last until Christmas

It actually sounds like a really well stocked Tesco.

In London, the really big Tescos have brewing kit, but the stock taking is really dumb. Lots of demijohns but no airlocks.

Often very hard to get fermenters, or the fermenters are missing pieces. Often lots of consumables missing.

Shame, as bricks and mortar stores are very valuable, especially for beginners.

That is great value on the coopers kits, must try pick one up next week if they're still there...

Bit of tinfoil over the top and you're done.

I always found it strange that they only sold it in one branch.

Just to update this thread. I was in a few weeks ago and talking to the staff member who was changing the price labels on the shelf. She was removing the specials tags but the white normal price tags she was inserting was the same price as special. She had claimed they were keeping the same price and they were going to continue to sell them. It wasn't a clearance.

Back in last night and everything seems to have gone back to the original prices bar the big boxed kits. None on shelves but 3 in a trolley nearby so I grabbed them @ €9.21 each.

It says on them to ferment in the same region for ale kits. What is people's experiences with this kit. Should I opt for the lower temps generally needed for this kit or stick close to the instructions and have it around 18. I'm all for experimenting but don't want to waste even one if the temps will throw off flavours.

Did you notice if they sell any Wheat DME or LME? I have enough for a smaller batch but I would like to make a bigger batch. Don’t really want to order more online if I can get away with it.

    cheers

I don't think they sell wheat or Liquid malt at all. Afaik they sell muntons enhancer and coopers enhancer. That's about it. No brewing sugar or other kinds of malt that I have seen. I don't often be in there to know if they ever stocked it to begin with.

Also worth noting that the normal Tesco price is usually higher than that of home brew shops. In that if you buy 2 or 3 items, the price difference generally equates to the delivery cost from a home brew store.

have they stocked up on the equipment like fermenters in there as well?

They didn't restock anything while the sale price was on. They have since restocked the shelves of most items. One or 2 things still out. Think they had 2 fermenting bins in there. Grab the youngs beer kit if you can. Much better value while it's at €9.21

The Next Door offies in Kimmage and Harold's Cross carry LME and DME if you're looking for a bricks-and-mortar supplier in Dublin.

Good to hear. I have been in there a couple of times, nice selection of beer. The last time I was there they were just starting to stock some homebrew stuff, kits/fermenters etc. I will drop by this evening.

    Thanks.

give us an idea of the kits and stock they have don't want to travel over if they haven't got much

Mostly just the Coopers kits and a couple of cider kits. DME in 500g and 1kg bags. I think I saw some Nottingham yeast, and some of the "finishing hops" in teabags. Then bits and bobs like buckets, airlocks, hydrometers, thermometers, Little Bottlers, ox-bar bottles etc. You could always give them a ring if you're looking for something in particular.
