I was told by a colleague today, who wants to become a reserve member that he cannot because his contract won't allow him to. He has passed nearly all the stages and is waiting to be called for medical.

Anyone know if there are any members of NAS who are reserve members also?

I know a Paramedic who is an active Garda Reserve. He didn't have any problems and only recently graduated.

It actually says in writing on his contract that he cannot become a member of the retained fire service or Garda Reserve. He is on the road about 3 years.

Any idea on whether he should go for it or what would happen if he did?

Can they stop him if there are members of NAS who are reserves even if he agreed to it in his contract?

Well that's between himself and the employer. The GR has no restrictions on allowing members of the NAS join.

Maybe he could speak with his employers and find out why it's not allowed and maybe try get around it?

Him continuing with the stages without telling his employers means he is in breach of his contract, so tell him to be careful as it could end up with disiciplinary action as he is, again, acting outside of his contract.
