    Hey,
just wondering if anyone can give me an insight into what the science (common entry) course is like in W.i.T, is it hard?
Also is Waterford an nice spot to go to college in and what accommodation would you suggest for a first year?

    Thanks :)

No idea, but my advice is stay away from Manor Properties as an estate agent...

Not sure what that course is like but Waterford is a grand place to go to college. It's a city but it's small enough. About 15% of the population are students so there's usually plenty to do. There's beaches and mountains a short drive away and plenty of sports clubs and student oriented pubs and clubs etc...

As for accommodation provided you are young i.e. 17-21 I'd recommend one of the college approved accommodation such as Manor Village or Riverwalk. It makes it easy to make friends and takes some of the hassle out of living away from home (especially during the first year).

No idea about the course either but Waterford is fine. Cheap nights out, plenty of shops, good nightlife. Its great for students.

I'd also advise you to stay away from Manor Properties, especially Manor Village. I lived there last year and while the craic was mighty, the rent was extortionate (€88 not including bills or internet) and out of my €400 deposit, they only gave back €195 of it.

I enquired why my deposit was withheld and got the stupidest answers ie. Bird excrement on the outside window (I was on the 4th floor, how the hell was I meant to clean that?) and Scratches on the drinking glasses were just a few of the gems they kept my deposit.

Definitely avoid them, if you can help it. I recommend Railway Square apartments, they're lovely.

    Hey alv,

Not in that course myself, but most (all?) of the science courses do the same modules in first year.
Did you do any science subjects for the Leaving Cert? If you did you shouldn't find the material too hard, but i will say that the work load is quite high, around 38hrs of class, tutorials and lab sessions per week. Most lab sessions require a written lab report due for the next week, plus your tutorial classes will give you assignments to complete at home. Theres also the Friday afternoon labs/lectures they schedule, to prove 'commitment' ;)
Most of the lecturers are sound and if you had any questions or problems with materials they are very accessible via e-mail or after class.
