    Shale pebble...?

    Unusual shape for sure but most likely natural. I cant think what purpose this particular shape would have served. Perhaps an unusual action of shore or river erosion.

    Dimensions and context?

    First reaction was that it's natural - maybe there was a softer, organic material, in the groove which has eroded out.
    You might expect to see something like that happening with limestone, but as Dr.G says, it's more like a shale.

    What do folks think of the two fine concentric rings incised around the main groove?

    dimensions 4 cm across as already stated. Not in any meaningful context..amongst a load of similar stones bought. Pebbles if you like.

    It looks bit like one of those worry stones you see in souvenir shops
