Dublin Pride afterparty in Merrion Sq - Are they selling beer?

Just wondering if anyone knows what's the story with the post dublin pride parade activities in Merrion Square? Last year they had bouncers and were taking water bottles & alcohol off people. They say this year that they will again have security to stop alcohol getting in (since it's illegal to drink in the park).

But people (connected with pride) have been telling me that they'll be selling beer inside the park. Is that true? The pride website doesn't say. They make references to a "over 18s" area. is that just for pole dancers? or will they be selling beer there? Do you need ID? What are their ID requirements? (I never carry ID when going out, so twould be very annoying if they were being very strict with ID).

Will they let people bring water into merrion square? (I think the bouncers wouldn't let people take water in last year.).

I saw this over on gaire
Also as for drinking ON THE DAY OF THE PRIDE PARADE, the Gardai and Dublin County Council have said that there will be a 3 hour window where drinking in public will be allowed. There is going to be a bar on the day of the parade in Merrion Square and this is the only place that drinking will be allowed.

I do not know how true this is.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

That reminds me of the Herald story/photos (outrage) about Pat Rabitte drinking a can of budweiser at the civic offices about 5 years ago.

Anyway plenty of right political contingents this year with FF and FG marching.

Not to be cynical but Fianna FAIL would do anything at this stage for votes. On a happier note I don't think any of the major parties have a really hard line stance against gays anymore, well not a very public one. Some TD's like Creton might but it's not the party line as far as I can see.

The self named moral majority I was referring too were more the hardline Christian groups!

Meh - hardline christian groups are minorities nowadays!

Thankfully :-) but in their view they are the moral majority and would be screaming very loudly about special treatment if the licensing laws are suspended to accommodate the pride!

From previous years experience, the Guards effectively ignore the drinking in public laws on Pride, mainly because us lot scare the regulars off the Boardwalk... and they do a lot more than just drink!

Don't know about that. A few years ago. Guards/Security were lax but more strict last 2 years.

Don't know about that. A few years ago. Guards/Security were lax but more strict last 2 years.

Last year there were bouncers on entrance to Civic Gardens which were taking people's beer off them if they wanted to get in. No point having it legal to drink inside if you can't bring drink in!!

They explicitly mention on their website here that they're doing that again:
Security will be controlling these points and ensuring that people are not bringing alcohol on to the square and park. This event takes place in public space and it is simply illegal to drink in public. DCC and the Gardai are extremely supportive and helpful in the organising of our event, so we ask that you respect this request.

I suspect this "3 hour window" is a false rumour. Otherwise they'd mention it.

Will they be strict like last year and prevent you bringing water in? Today is a hot day, and if tomorrow is like that, I'll need to drink water regularly!

Dublin Pride have clarified things a bit on their Facebook page:
Just a friendly reminder folks, please do not attempt to bring alcohol into Merrion Square. There will be a designated over-18s area with refreshments available on site. We want to ensure a safe, family-friendly space so alcohol will be available in the designated area only
