    Hi everyone,

I am carrying out research for my PhD in Psychology which looks at the area of Internet behaviour. In particular, I am interested in people's attitudes and confidence with using the Internet. I lost all the data from my previous data collection as a result of a bug in the computer system so I'm desperately seeking participants to fill out my survey. It only takes 3 minutes so if you could spare a few minutes, I would *really* appreciate your help!

    Thanks a mil,

    Mary :)

edited to say that poster has

Thanks to the poster who reported this, but you can see JC give the OP permission after she asked. And more importantly the OP asked before they posted. Everything is good here.

Thanks everyone for all the responses! I really appreciate it! The data collection is ongoing if anyone is still interested in completing it. I also posted it in the surveys forum so here's hoping that is fruitful also! :)

    Hi Mary,

    Completed :)

However I had difficulties understanding some of the context in the Likert questions and I am "both" a student and employed :) Not sure which catagory would help your study more ;)

    Hi deegs,

Thanks for completing my questionnaire! If you are both a student and employed, then go for the occupation that is your full-time occupation (whatever you spend the most time doing). It doesn't really matter which one you pick, I would just be interested when doing analysis to see if there is a difference in attitudes between the different occupational groups. Was there something in the statements in particular that you had difficulty with or that was confusing? All feedback is welcome :)

Not something specifically, just generally I was a little lost trying to understand what the internet was in the context.

    Two examples below.
The Internet makes a positive contribution towards society.
The Internet is dehumanising to society.

The internet is only an inanimate tool, so saying that it makes a positive contribution to society or opposite is unusual? Kinda like saying "a hammer" makes a positive contribution to society (unless it's Thor's ;) )

Also what exactly is the internet?
I would not stay on the Internet for longer than necessary.
For sure I know when I am cooking and I go to google for a recipe I am doing what I "think" you mean by "stay on the internet" (or should that be stay using the internet??) but so much of todays interconnectivity is not "on the internet".

For instance, when I am walking down the street and my 3g phone beeps to tell my someone likes my facebook status, and I smile, put my phone away and walk on. This interaction was less than 10sec and I was not "on the internet", same with email clients which connect every few minutes unknown to me until an email is found and then it notifys me, or perhaps my wife is playing angry birds on her phone (not the internet / the web or any other similiar terminology) and unknown to her the app has connected to a server and is updating and possibly downloading new levels.

I guess really, my point is... what is "the internet", what is its context and will you get the data you want with this presentation as, to me at least, the notion being presented of internet use seems a little out of date.

    YMMV :)

    category needed for many
    not unemployed, not retired
forcibly retired after accident = disabled, less-abled
thanks and good luck with your results
