    How's it going lads

Just got it confirmed earlier that my 3 and half year old macbook pro is a goner. The logic board went bye bye in it.
After spending big money on an apple product and seeing it fail, I've decided to come back to the pc world.

My budget is about e800. I don't game, I don't watch movies and i'm not a big down loader of music. So my only real requirements are screen clarity (the apple screen was immense) and quick boot up time.

I've no real brand affiliation but would really like to try before I buy.

Oh, and nothing too plasticy either.

Any help would be great. Thanks a lot

Don't all jump in at once lads :-P

I was down in currys earlier and was impressed by the Asus n55sl with an i5 processor.

Here's my question. What would be the main difference between the i5 and the i7 processors?

If you're looking for screen clarity (I'll just assume here you do something in relation to dealing with image/video editing) and color's an important thing, give the Dell XPS 15 (previous gen) a look.
I'm sure in the refreshed model they're using the same screen
If they are, the 1080p upgrade for that actually tops it when it comes to screen clarity and color accuracy. It even does better than the previous gen MBP's. That and also it's good for the price you're spending on it, or at least better than blowing over 2 grand on the new retina MBP's xD

Edit: And to answer your question about the CPU

    7 is 2 more than 5.

    ;)

I've a DellInspiron 1500 series and before that I had a phillips freevent. The phillips was good and lasted fro about 5 years, The Dell is ookay but I'm getting the dredded white screen problem that seem to plague Dells worldwide.

    €800 is loads btw.

If you don't know. Then you don't need the i7. :)

I think the main difference is this...
The main reason to pay this additional cash for a i7 is hyper-threading, but this advantage will only be evident if you frequently use programs that can actually make use of 8 threads.

I'm not sure if all the laptop i5 are quad core though.
