    Hi,

    Quick question,

Do I need a special tool to wind back the pistons when replacing the rear pads in 2005 petrol skoda octavia.

    Thanks

A wind back tool with the proper adaptor to fit into the little lugs in the piston face makes things much easier but it can be done, carefully, with a large grips but damaging the dirt seal is much more likely this way.

These calipers can also be extremely stiff sometimes which makes it even more difficult without the proper tool.

So just the wind back tool so. No computers/diagnostics or anything needed?

    Thanks

Only the windback tool as you dont have the electronic handbrake like the passats etc so no diagnostics.

Ive done a few rear brakes without the windback tool and its really not worth the hassle plus you need four hands as on some cars you need to apply a light pressure as well as winding in.
