Got a fine in the post for speeding with the usual picture of the reg but it was the rear of the car. Are the static vans now doing you as you drive away from them or would this be a camera on the dash of a garda car.

Static vans can get you in both directions

Gatso vans have the capability of detecting speed in both directions and for some reason, some people think you are only detected going forward. The Go safe vans have a detection error of 10% where as with the Garda its 6%. A lot and I mean "a lot" of people believe they can only target speed on the basis of them travelling from their vans. A bit like the 11 reg avensis we see on the road...measurement in both directions. Cameras mounted both front and to the rear.

I noticed the camera mounting on the roof of the safety vans facing forward but I assumed that this was only CCTV. Surely if the main rig takes up the whole of the back of the van a small camera on the roof couldnt do the same job. Would it not be more likely that they survey both lanes of traffic only from the rear of the van and got the rear number plate as the vehicle was travelling away?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, or contradict you, I have no experience with either type (go-safe or Guarda) just wondering.

Ya I was kinda wondering about this as well, do the go safe vans scan both sides of the road and if they do then where are they scanning e.g. both from behind the van or one land from the forward camera and one lane from the rear.

Also, do the 11 reg avensis'ss's's' have speed camera's mounted front and rear as claimed or is it a number plate scanner job?
