Right so got a PC here that I can throw €200 at.

friend isnt a big gamer, literally only plays DotA.

caveat is that I definitely need a new case, and ram.

    any recommendations?

    current specs are:

    Athlon II x4 640 3.0ghz
    Nvidia GTS 250 :o
Asrock 770 chipset something or other.
    Samsung F3 1Tb
    SuperFlower Amazon 550W PSU

    any suggestions?

Just keep the current setup and stick it in a new case with some more ram and a GFX card?

would I be better upgrading the GPU or CPU for Dota2?

also, what would a second hand gts 250 sell for?

i was gona throw it up on adverts for 100~ next week when I get my new gfx, but without you i'd never have heard of the korean ips screens so I'd be willing to cut you a deal and save myself the hassle of puttingitup on adverts and checking every day to see if some bastard bought it

send me a pm if you want it anyway.. 50+p&p btw :p dunno what a gfx costs to post, but id imagine its not a little.

It's about 15-20 euro I think. I'd say a large padded envelope? As in a really large one with extra padding. And bubblewrap! :D

i think I have he largest envelope my post office has and the box doesnt fit in :)

    15-20 euro though, yeesh

I dont really need the box or CD/manual, if it makes it any easier.

i guess I could wrap it in loads of newspaper to keep it safe in the envelope

ill see next week anyway :)

This could be a very good upgrade for your friend .

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/4029338/art/amd/phenom-ii-x4-965-3-4-ghz.html

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/11391849/art/amd/radeon-hd-6870-oem-1-gb-g.html

This will work out at about 260 with shipping .

You could sell on the gpu and cpu to fund the upgrade , I would say you could get somewhere in the region of 80 to 90 for them or maybe a little bit more .

I believe Dota 2 uses the Source engine, so CPU Is the main drag there.

A sempron with integrated 4250 handles portal 2; you don't need to upgrade the CPU.
That's DOTA 2 that runs on the source engine (minimum req Pentium 4 3 GHz, rec Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz) while DOTA runs on the ancient Warcraft 3 engine (rec 600MHz CPU!).

Either way, the CPU is more than enough.

I have one of these lying around if you want to take it off my hands , If you do pm me but I would rather you collected . I can take a few photos of it if you needed me too .

I'm in Limerick and without a car, so I'd say chances are bleak I'll be able to collect. thanks for the offer though.

I'm going to go through HWVS, just waiting on bloody banks to sort out this mess they're in. you'd think after we bail them out they'd at least work properly. ugh. rant for somewhere else :o
