    Hi,

i was just wondering if anybody could help me. I am a 27 year old girl and quite pretty, the only thing that lets me down is my teeth. I have an unbelievable phobia of the dentists, I went about 5 years ago where they told me i needed 2 root canals and 3 extractions and some filliings, i never did anything about it and whenever my teeth were sore took some painkillers and when my teeth weren't sore thought that I didnt have the problem. My front teeth looked fine so nobody could see that I had a problem. 3 of my teeth have broken away and alot of my other teeth are chipped and broken and now I think that they are so bad that if I went to see a dentist he would think I was this disguisting human being that didnt bother. I constantly brush my teeth and chew gum but I know this obviously isnt enough but feel too ashamed to tell anyone or attend a dental surgery. Can anybody help me please???????

I'm sure the dentist will have seen worse. I would just go if I were you. Your problems are only going to get worse the longer you leave it.

As Angle said, I'm sure the dentist has seen worse, but really you need to see the Dentist as soon as possible. The problem will only get worse with time.
The dentist won't judge, and I'm sure they seen lots of people in your situation

Completely understandable, especially when you're scared. But believe me, it's better than letting your teeth rot and die. How have you managed to chip so many of your teeth? I think once you realise there's a solution, you'll be happier to just do it.

Was in the same position not so long ago but I am younger, hadn't been to a dentist in about ten years but I had a big cavity at the back of one of my front teeth and I knew I had to do something about it.

So I swallowed my fear and my embarrassment and went, I got someone to come and sit in the waiting room as I found this easier than going alone, I have been multiple times in the last 7 months in order to sort stuff out, it gets easier each time. As the others have said Dentist's will always have seen worse, fear of Dentists is a very common one. Yes you might need a lot of work but at the end of the day it will be a lot less than you need in five years down the line.

Best of luck, you just need to bite the bullet, it also might help to find a Dentist in your area that is sympathetic to those with a fear of Dentists.

I did need a lot of fillings, I went to one Dentist and tbh I felt like he just sat there totting up how much everything would cost, he also told me that I needed an extraction. I went to another dentist who I found much better, he filled the tooth that the other dentist said need extraction, I will have to have it crowned eventually but much better than loosing a tooth. I don't think either judged me really, I just didn't feel the first one was for me, at the end of the day even if they had judged me I wouldn't have cared while my teeth weren't in the best of condition it was fear that had caused it and it took guts to go.

Ask your friends and family about their dentist, who they think is good and who they think is nice and sympathetic.
